We had a great time working with Max and his family. Max did a great job with his service and then got down on the dance floor all night long. It was a beautiful party, the DJ even played the Wake Forest fight song for him during the horah! It was a really cool event, we even got to do some photos on the spot for them, and I look forward to the next time I get to work with these guys.

Kendall did an amazing job on his reading! He flew through it like a natural, it was incredible. And speaking of incredible, check out the pic of the party room below. His theme was Neon Nights, his aunt did all the decorations, and it looked spectacular. Also pay attention to the horah shot; it's the first time I've ever seen kids come out and do the lifting instead of adults. It's got to be just that much cooler when it's your peers doing it for you. Congrats Kendall!

I really enjoyed working with these guys, even if I did have to be at Beth David at 7am for Thursday services. It was a privilege to be able to capture the service for these guys, to be able to see it all first hand. So mazel tov to Sarah and her family!

I worked Matt & Tyler's sister Nicolette's bat Mitzvah, so I was thrilled to be asked to do theirs. Both guys did a great job on their reading and the party was amazing! I know they had a great time as did all of their friends and family.

Catalina came to me with a definite idea of what she was looking for. Exotic and brazen, she definitely did not want to do a traditional portrait session in the park. She wanted a glamorous and edgy look. I took her on location downtown, taking advantage of all of the weathered brick and wood to give her shots a gritty urban quality. Judging from her comments, I think I succeeded in achieving her vision:

“Thanks! I am very impressed with what you did . . .the shots look amazing! Even my friends loved them! We definitely need to do this again!”

Heather's Trash the Dress

What is a Trash the Dress session? Well, TTD refers to photographs that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is completely out of place. We take you in your beautiful, elegant wedding dress and we stick you in a dirty alley, on a sandy beach in the surf, or on a boulder up in the mountains. We put you in your dress in places you would never expect to see a bride and get amazing, fun, funky and even sexy photos out of it.

More and more brides are electing to do this almost as a declaration that the wedding is done and the dress will never be used again. And why not? You’ve made a commitment to your husband, he’s your one and only true love, right? Then you’ll never need the dress again. And no, your daughter won’t wear it in 20-30 years.

So go ahead, you know you want to. Trash it. Get it dirty. Get it wet. Roll around in the mud. Drench it in the ocean. Totally trash it. And you'll get way more enjoyment out of the pictures than you ever would suffocating it in plastic and throwing it in a closet.

And, that's exactly what Heather did....sort of. Actually, she had a dress that she bought intending to change into it after the ceremony so she could boogie down at the reception. So she got the best of both worlds by saving her wedding dress and going out with me to trash her party dress:

When Dana approached me to photograph Reid’s Bar Mitzvah, I was excited to have the opportunity to work with this wonderful family again. They are the most delightful people you could ever hope to meet and I’d had the opportunity to photograph Lucy’s Bat Mitzvah in 2006. I really enjoyed working with them then and Reid’s Bat Mitzvah was no different. He he did an exceptional job with his Torah portion and had a wonderfully thoughtful speech. It was noteworthy to witness Rabbi Koren’s interest in Reid’s speech at rehearsal. Lucy did a great job in her Torah reading as well and afterwards, friends and family gathered to celebrate this day with Reid.

Lindenberg Green Screen

So we did a Photo on the Spot for this event. A Photo on the Spot is when we go on location, set up our mobile studio and do portraits of party goers at the event. We've done events where clients wanted more traditional portraits on black or white backdrops. We've done a "red carpet" entrance to the party where we take pictures of the guests as they're coming in on the red carpet. And we even do green screen shots where we drop in cool backgrounds behind the people that go with the theme of the party. Alli's theme was Italy so of course we had pictures of Venice and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

The event was beautiful. We did the Italy montage that played throughout the night as well as Alli's growing up montage. And we designed the table cards, menus and the really cool menu poster that hung in the cafe. It was a very cool event and we had a great time working it. Here are a few samples and some shots of our print work in the room.

It took me much too long to get this up but here are some pics from Jack and Heather's wedding: It was a beautiful event. They got married at the same church Heather's parents did. The church looked amazing as did their programs (Beth designed them!).

Rebecca's event was last Saturday and it was amazing. Rebecca did a great job in service and her party was a blast. The theme was shopping and every table was a store. And Rebecca's mom does tie dye stuff so all the kids got these cool socks that said "I danced my socks off at Rebecca's Bat Mitzvah"! It was definitely cool to see all those socked feet on the dance floor.

Ok, I have to admit that I'm partial to pics of this little guy because he's mine. We just got a new backdrop system in for the studio the other day and we were putting it up when an impromptu photo session broke out. Actually, my son initiated it. He's spent his entire life in front of my camera and he is now a huge ham who likes to be photographed. So I'm working installing the backdrop system and he pulls on my pant's leg: "Daddy, take my picture!"

He's almost impossible to refuse so I broke out my camera and did some shots. We had a great time; I had him making faces at me, playing airplane and rolling around on the ground while I tickled him. But I just looked at the pics this morning and it's scary how old he looks. I know he's going to grow up but it is really weird to see it happen.

The other night he went and got his plastic green chair, pulled it across the room and set it up beside me at the sink. He proceeded to climb up into his chair, he gave me a hug and asked me if I wanted any help washing the dishes. This is my 4 year old actually wanting to help me wash the dishes! I let him rinse and he did a decent job (when he wasn't trying to splash me) but it just amazes me.

I see him everyday so I guess it doesn't register to me but when I look at the photos I take of him. He's changed so much from photos I took just two months ago. It's amazing how they grow.

Anyway, the point of this was to show off some adorable pics of my kid and to let you guys know that we have a new studio set up at the shop so stop by and lets make some fantastic portraits!

Rebecca Preview

Rebecca's rehearsal was yesterday so we went to the Temple to photograph it and get a few family shots before the big event this Saturday. Rebecca really knows her Torah portion and did great with her speech as well. She is going to be wonderful on Saturday! Here are a few teaser shots from her rehearsal. So Jess just graduated and was unhappy with her school pictures. She wanted some pics that would really capture her personality, who she is. She wanted grungy, maybe even a little creepy but definitely dark. So, as a gift to herself she decided to book a photo session before she went away to college. We went out to an old barn and found some cool places to shoot that would get her what she wanted. I'm really thrilled with how they came out and I know she loves them. She was a ton of fun to work with and I really liked that she had a clear idea of what she wanted. It was an honor to help her realize this image she had for herself.

Ok, so I posted about Vlora before, the girl that I helped with a school project. Well I finally got her in front of my camera for real for her senior portraits. She was really open to trying out different things so I took her around down town Greensboro.
First we went for soft and pretty:

There aren't may people that get to have senior portraits like this. I think they came out great and she looks absolutely beautiful in them. I can't wait to work with her again!

Thaddaeus & Crystal

So Thaddaeus and Crystal got married recently and it was beautiful. They did the entire thing a Clifton Road Baptist Church, moving over to the fellowship hall after the ceremony. Everything went smoothly and the ceremony was beautiful. And the reception was refreshingly simple with just friends and family there with love and camaraderie, no big party or dancing. Just a simple gathering of loved ones to revel in the beauty of the day.

JoAnna & Jim

JoAnna won a free bridal sitting at the last bridal show but decided she would prefer to do an engagement session instead. So the three of us headed out to the park to take some pics and I got to know JoAnna and Jim a little better. I think they were nervous about the whole thing, they said they had never had pictures of the two of them before and they didn't know what to expect. It wasn't long before I had them tickling each other, dancing to music that wasn't there or dipping their feet in cool water - and all their nervousness just melted away.

So Heather and Jack got married over the weekend at Centenary Methodist Church, the same church Heather's parents got married at 25 years ago. It was beautiful! Here's a preview of their event and I'll have more soon.

And here are a few bridal shots we did of her a few weeks ago. She was a beautiful bride and a ton of fun to be around. The girl has a great sense of humor. She kept doing these little dances at the church in her wedding dress, it was hilarious.

What a beautiful and talented young lady. This college student is a singer/song writer who wanted some pics to help promote herself. We found ourselves downtown where the weather was wonderful! We got a lot of cool shots but when the sun went down and we weren’t ready to stop shooting we moved everything over to the lobby of the Depot before finally calling it a night.

I must confess, these guys are actually my neighbors, which made this shoot a blast! Justin and my son Gabe play soccer together so I had to bring him along. We got some good shots of the family and I even got to help them recreate a picture from their wedding day but incorporating Justin this time! After that we all got to play and have a good time and I got an awesome shot of Gabe and Justin playing together. A shot that is now hanging in both their bedrooms.

Crystal and Thaddaeus are truly a part of their community and I love their spirit. The delight they find in each other is beautiful.

Vlora in the park

So, Vlora is a HS Senior who is doing a school project on photography and I have been serving as her advisor. She went with me to Patti & Leo’s wedding to shoot the event and she did really well even if she was really tired by the end of the night. But she also had to do some portraits so we headed over to the park. She was supposed to be doing the shooting but while I was there I managed to get in a couple of shots of my own. It’s been a cool experience helping out a student like this but, of course, it’s always nice when someone is interested in what you love!
